Last night, the amazing Jennifer Kimball headlined the first ever Sauna House Salon, playing original songs she has been working on recently. Included were songs about Hurricane Island, local bird life, and love itself. It was a magical evening shared with an intimate gathering of a lucky few.

This weekend we began a multi-media collaboration between geologists, writers, visual artists, and musicians. We are exploring the concept of Place and how it has resonance and meaning to all of us. George Kendrick began by telling the stories of the formation of the island we know as Vinalhaven, starting over 5M years ago. We traveled through time from Gondwanaland and Laurentia to the ages of volcanoes and glaciers, to ancient societies and to modern day concerns. We meet again in a month with our artistic responses to the scientific information. Stay tuned....

From yesterday's Open Studio. Baran Shafiey and Wilson Dean. They have one remaining week on the island before they return to the Rhode Island School of Design to complete their undergraduate degrees in Painting. What a delight it was to share this place with them.
