It’s the Marie Hull trifecta! Three stunning oil paintings just became available. These pieces represent three distinct eras in her long painting career: a traditional floral, a painterly scene of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and a glorious abstract piece. See link in bio or email [email protected] for details.

With a confidence that comes with repetition and endless hours of practice, Walter Anderson revealed the movements, the mannerisms, and the characteristics of animals in motion with simple yet elegant pencil drawings. Anderson’s intensive focus on Southern flora and fauna have shaped the way we see and experience the Mississippi Gulf Coast to this day.

“Scaup,” and “Terns,” are drawn on Anderson’s usual typewriter paper with clear, strong linear markings, as graphite does not fade like watercolor or some inks.

Available, please DM for information.

Walter Anderson (1903-1965), “Scaup,” and “Terns,” ca. 1960. Graphite on paper. 8.5 x 11 inches each. Estate authentication on verso.

This punchy Fauve-esque still life by Lynn Green Root is featured in this month’s consignment 🤩. Full of color and gestural markings, this ca. 1970s work of Root’s reveals an early interest in bright colors and a stylized, linear approach to representation that would come to define her work in the 1980s and 1990s. DM for details and pricing.

Lynn Green Root (American/Mississippi 1954-2001), “Untitled (Fauve Still Life),” ca. 1970s. Acrylic on canvas. 44x40 in.

✨On View Now: Jennifer Drinkwater: The What’s Good Project✨

The What’s Good Project celebrates meaningful stories from where we live.

Inspired by the conversations she has with folks around the country, artist Jennifer Drinkwater creates original paintings about what’s good about their rural, overlooked, and misunderstood areas. A portion of each art sale is donated back to these communities.

I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is MORE BUCCIS. I spent this week installing “In His Element: Andrew Bucci’s Explorations of Place.” It is the third unique exhibition to open in the centennial year! This exhibition focuses on the places Bucci lived and how he captured the character of each location in his work. It will be a pleasant surprise to those of you who are only familiar with his figural abstracts. It opens at Vicksburg’s Firehouse Gallery on September 3 and runs through the 25th. This one is near and dear to my heart as I lived in Vicksburg until I was 6 and go back often to visit relatives. I love every wonky pink shotgun house and overgrown kudzu yard in that town, and Bucci apparently did too.
