Alumna Spotlight: Elyse Crown
Favorite Encore Memory: Performing “Sophisticated Ladies”, the fastest/most amazing tap dance ever, at the 50th Anniversary Recital and competitions.
Greatest Accomplishment: So far, completing my Master’s degree and teaching English in southern Italy as a Fulbright Scholar.
Greatest Advice: Figure out a way to express why you do what you do. Whether you are a dancer, teacher, lawyer, doctor, etc., find a way to define why you do it. Why is it your passion? Why have you dedicated your life to it? Others will feed off that conviction and passion.
Favorite Dance Genre: Tap/Rockette Style Precision
Favorite Encore Piece: “Sophisticated Ladies”
Favorite Memories: Some of my favorite dance memories, besides Encore, are when I danced at Radio City Music Hall (almost) every weekend for the time that I lived in New York City. I worked as an assistant for the Rockette Experience and the Rockette Summer Intensive.
After graduating from the University of Alabama with a B.A. in Early Childhood Development and Dance, I moved to New York City. I auditioned and danced as much as possible before it was time to give my body a rest. I returned to UA for my M.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. I conducted original research for my master’s thesis which focused on creative movement, dance, and preschool children; it was very exciting to once again tie my passion for dance and young children together. I currently live in New Orleans with my husband, and I am an early childhood educator/advocate. In my free time I study Italian, travel, workout, and cross stitch.
