We have shows the whole family can enjoy! The original use of the Royal building made history by offering the town all the latest musical, comedy and western movies in a "luxurious" setting. On Sept 28, the theatre’s origina

l owner, Joseph T Ghosen, opened the 500-seat theatre. In 1950, the theatre closed until the early 1960s and was open on and off until 1978 when the movie era ended. The theatre remained vacant for 3 years until 1981, when live entertainment was introduced. In May 1983, the Royal Theatre Company was born. The group was later renamed the Royal Arts Council to better suit its pursuit of community arts program grant funding. The Royal Theatre Players, a working group comprised of anyone who had worked in a theatre play - building sets, performing, directing - organized to provide both manpower and fundraising to support the theatre productions. On June 21, 1984, the Royal received tax exempt status, allowing it to receive tax-deductible contributions. With $13 000.00 in cash and at least that amount in the form of in-kind labor and materials, the newly formed corporation began transforming the Royal Theatre. Renovations and improvements have since made the Royal Theatre a venue of concerts, plays, performances, art shows, and more. The executive director is Tina Holsten. The Royal Theatre’s Mission is to foster an understanding and appreciation for the Visual and Performing Arts by providing a welcoming place to learn and grow through educational and performing opportunities. Through live community plays, live concerts, art shows, and hosting other area events, The Royal Theatre and all its volunteers bring joy and laughter to audiences.

Throwback Thursday to 2019’s “Newsies”. We’ve watched most of these kids grow up on this stage. Now some are directors, choreographers, and soloists. The youngest participant is now almost 15 years old. Others have moved on to college, careers and families. Here is this moment, frozen in time. (It also features the unidentified item from Maya & Sophie’s recent excursion to the props room- thank you Tina Holsten for the identification! )

The kids play had a surprise guest this morning. The author of their play “I Hate Shakespeare”, Steph Deferie, met with them via zoom. The kids were able to ask questions, and she gave them valuable advice about writing, acting, and pursuing your passion. Here are some clips from the interview.
