Just found out that the world of indie music lost a beautiful soul yesterday. Daniel Johnston, a man with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, started his career by handing out homemade tapes at the McDonald's he worked at. Eventually he would achieve fame through sheer word of mouth and would even go on to be recognized by Kurt Cobain himself. Today he serves as an inspiration for the alternative music scene, a shining beacon of the DIY ethos: lending a creative outlet to those who wouldn't usually have access to one, and expressing the pure childlike joy of creating music without having to worry about making it "sophisticated."

Thank you for everything, and rest easy.

Regardless of what you may think of either artist, this is a matter that should not be settled in the court of law. Our legal system simply isn't equipped to handle vague similarities between melodies and chord progressions. We've only got 12 notes, so there's only so many combinations we can have before they start to sound alike!
