BREAKING NEWS: WOMAN ORDERS 17 SANDWICHES AT PUBLIX DELI DURING PEAK LUNCH HOUR, ACHIEVES INSTANT INFAMY

VERO BEACH, FL — Chaos erupted Tuesday afternoon at the deli counter of Publix after a local woman calmly stepped up during the height of the lunch rush and placed an order for 17 individual sandwiches, bringing the line (and several wills to live) to a complete standstill.

Witnesses say the woman, described as “eerily relaxed” and “carrying the confidence of someone who has never once considered pre-ordering,” began her request at approximately 12:07 p.m., a time widely regarded by experts as “the worst possible moment to do that.”

“At first we thought she was joking,” said one man who had been waiting in line long enough to develop a mild emotional attachment to the person in front of him. “Then she said, ‘Okay, the first one is a whole Italian…’ and I felt something inside me just… leave.”

According to reports, the order included a wide variety of highly customized sandwiches, each requiring careful deliberation, multiple clarifications, and at least one full re-do after the phrase, “Wait.... actually, can we toast that?”

Employees at the deli counter maintained professional composure as the list continued, though sources confirmed one worker briefly stared into the middle distance after sandwich number nine and whispered, “There has to be a better way.”

The woman reportedly paused halfway through the order to answer a phone call, during which she could be heard asking coworkers additional sandwich preferences, including the now-infamous question: “Do you still not like tomatoes, or are you over that?”

Customers in line reacted in real time, progressing through the five stages of deli grief: optimism, confusion, frustration, quiet resignation, and eventually, bonding.

“We’re a family now,” said one woman, who exchanged contact information with three strangers while waiting. “We’ve been through something together.”

Publix representatives later issued a statement gently reminding customers that large orders can be placed ahead of time online or by phone, a suggestion the woman reportedly described as “a great idea for next time,” before adding two more sandwiches “just in case.”

At press time, the final sub had been completed, wrapped, and handed over to scattered applause, while at least four people in line were still debating whether it was too late to just go to the hot bar instead.
