Vernon Hills High School Orchestra Website for the orchestra program at Vernon Hills High School in Vernon Hills, IL! The orchestras meet separately as daily elective classes.

There are four curricular orchestras at Vernon Hills High School with a total of 190 string students. All freshmen
begin in Concert Orchestra, and students advance to Philharmonic Orchestra or Chamber Strings as sophomores/juniors/seniors. Symphony Orchestra is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors by audition and includes woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The String Project is an extra-curricul

ar ensemble open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Vernon Hills Orchestra program has an established tradition of excellence with performances at the IMEA All-State Conference in Peoria in 2004, 2013 and 2019, the MENC National Conference in 2008 and 2012, the Midwest Clinic in 2009 and 2015, and at Chicago's Symphony Center in 2011 (pictured to the right). The orchestra has toured internationally to China in 2001, Spain in 2006, Italy in 2008, and Austria in 2012. The orchestra will be returning to Spain in March of 2014 for performances in Madrid, Seville, and Granada. The VHHS Symphony Orchestra has also been featured on WFMT's "Introductions" program.

The VHHS and LHS orchestras just arrived home from an epic trip. 170 musicians traveled 600 miles through 4 cities (Paris, Avignon, Arles, Nice), and played 3 performances; all with precision and panache.

They also resiliently faced 55 lost bags on arrival, two national labor strikes, many instances of reverse digestion, the attack of the tree nuts, and a 3.5 hour wait on baggage on our return to Chicago (😣).

All of that taken into account, the VHHS Tour to France was exhilarating, challenging, memorable, collectively and individually transformative. We ate the best food and drank in the most beautiful vistas imaginable.

Nous aimons la france!

As much as it is great to be home, it’s hard not to excitedly start conversations about our next adventure together.
