Frida. 11x14 acrylic. Who doesn’t love Friday Kahlo? She was a folk artist but not only that, she was way ahead of her times. She was an advocate of the “mexicanidad movement” which resisted tbe mindset of cultural inferiority" created by colonialism. She was intensely political, something back then was only for the men to talk about. The only thing I don’t like was her relationship with Diego Rivera as it seemed from what I read, extremely toxic but an inspiration for a couple of her paintings.

“Through creativity you can find unconditional love” Painting my Goddess took forever, I wanted her to be beautiful and perfect. I have a vision, a goal, however, she didn’t turn the way I wanted her to be. And then I knew this was a reflection of how I want to be in real life, this perfect person that I am obviously not. Art perspective: this is inspired in Goddess of Art, beauty and wisdom. I painted circles around with masculine and feminine colors to portray the duality of both energies within me.
