"Take a look at this old Methodist bell. Never knew it was so big!" said Satie.
It was big all right. Near filled the whole belfry. I was like to cried when I looked down at the pretty sight of our park with its young trees all leafed out. Over by the school the parade was forming.
"Come and see! Folks is coming for the parade. We can see it good from here."
Well said, "It's sure a pretty sight, ain't it, Satie? I kin make out George Earl in his uniform. He's head of the Civil War soldiers.
There's a lot more of them coming. Us boys is marchin' right behind them."
"See those shining things! Must be the sun shinin' on the horns in the Band."
"Nobody can see the parade as good as us, Satie!"
Well says, "Now, Satie, when I pull on the rope, you keep count of the times it rings, like we planned. That's your part. It's just twelve....Ready!"
When Well pulled on that rope it was just like thunder. I put my fingers in both ears.
"Take your fingers outa your ears, Satie. Just put 'em in and out, if you can't stand it so loud. Listen! There's our School bell. You can hardly hear it."
"Well, the Presbyterian bell is starting. That's our church."
"Standin' on the front lawn, we kin hear it from home when the winds right. Ain't it nice? It's got a deep sound. I wish I could have rung it."
"Seeing they had someone promised, it's good them Methodist men asked you to ring this one •
"All the bells in town is ringin' now."
"I betcha they'll never all ring together like this again."
While Well was talking and the bells was ringing, he was pulling on the rope and our bell was soundin' out with the others.
