This week here are Sandau Fine Art Gallery at 461 W 200 S, in Vernal, Utah, we are showcasing three pieces of art.
Our first is from artist, Ken Casady titled “Big Bend Ocatillo”. It’s a 22.5”x28” artistic rendering of a photographic image printed on aluminum. The desert plant, Fouquieria splendens (commonly known as ocotillo) has many names: (buggywhip, coachwhip, candlewood, slimwood, desert coral, Jacob's staff, Jacob cactus, and vine cactus) and can grow up to 33 feet tall. For
most of the year it’s long spinally branches seem baron, however after sufficient rain leaves appear along the stems and bright crimson blossoms burst forth at it’s tips. This image was captured in Big Bend National Park, Texas.
Next work is from the artist Jeanne Newman. This is a 16”x20” original watercolor titled “Cowboy’s Delight”. This perennial plant Sphaeralcea coccinea, commonly known as the scarlet globemallow, scarlet mallow, cowboy's delight, prairie mallow, red false mallow, or simply as globe mallow, grows in abundance here in the Uintah Basin, Utah. Jeanne captured the beautiful reddish-orange color of the blossoms from this resilient desert plant.
Our last work is an image of mine taken near Henry’s Lake, Idaho. It’s a 12x18 photographic image printed on archival photo paper of two isolated Rocky Mountain columbine blossoms. With the scientific name of Aquilegia coerulea, it is the state flower of Colorado. Other common names are Colorado columbine, or blue columbine. Its name in Latin means sky-blue.
