As a theatre studies major at USD, you will prepare to be a well-rounded theatre practitioner and scholar. Here, you will grow personally and creatively as you prepare to enter the theatre profession or further your education as a graduate student. Our program provides you with coursework and extracurricular activities where you will cover a broad range of theatre history, dramatic literature, performance, production techniques and practices, and theory.

Develop production techniques, prepare a role for performance and learn to analyze play scripts as a theatre studies major at USD.

As a design theatre/technology major at USD, you will analyze complex theatrical demands and create an effective plan of ex*****on to solve the logistical needs of the script and the demands of staging the design. Here, a blend of intensive classroom instruction and practical experience will help you hone your skills while exploring the broad field of design and technology.

Our program provides you with the standards of graphic representation using traditional hand methods, as well as state-of-the-art technologies used in computer-aided drafting and computer rendering. You'll benefit from experienced mentors who will guide you as you create portfolio materials and develop job-seeking skills.

Skillfully orchestrate and execute theatrical design as a design/technology major at USD.

Ask about our dance minor and keep moving during your time at USD!

Follow your passion and enhance your understanding of various styles of dance by pursuing a dance minor. Through this program, you will analyze the historical, creative and technical aspects of dance. You will study four styles of dance at two levels and take a choreography course. Our program enables you to develop your dance skills and abilities, expand your knowledge and increase your appreciation for the art of dance.

A minor in dance gives you a broad but solid foundation in the world of dance. Some of your courses will include modern dance, jazz dance, tap dance, ballet and choreography.

Ask about our BFA in Musical Theatre!

As a theatre student specializing in musical theatre, you will develop independent, creative and responsive skills to become a bold performer. Here, you will gain a general knowledge of musical theatre, dramatic literature, musical theatre history and technical theatre production. Our program provides you with extensive knowledge of the acting process as it applies to classical and contemporary musical theatre performance, vocal technique for singing classical and contemporary works, and dance technique in the styles of ballet, jazz and tap.

Become an adaptable, proactive, effective and collaborative performer by studying musical theatre. At USD, you'll develop an expressive vocal/physical/sensory instrument and special skills in dance and singing, preparing you to be a highly skilled and specialized performer!
