Go check out Mrs. Jill Brown - she’s at the Venice community center now.
We all know that Music is so beneficial for our little ones and ourselves, but why?
If you ask me, music is an essential part of learning. One scientific reason why? Music can be a whole brain activity- that means that when listening to, engaging in, and processing music, it isn't just one area of the brain that is activated- it can involve multiple parts, and even nearly the entire brain.
Music helps children in early learning to do things like: develop language skills, be creative, learn gross and fine motor skills by playing musical instruments, memorize concepts through repetition and use of mnemonic devices through music, problem solve/work together with others, and so much more.
The best part about it? Not only is music fun, but you don't even have to be a musician to enjoy it and participate in it. That's why when I did work as a board certified Music Therapist I knew that my clients didn't have to be musical at all to enjoy the many benefits that music can offer. Sometimes this took some convincing, and in other cases people totally understood this.
Come enjoy a Playdate Harmonies Music session one of these Wednesdays to find out for yourselves! We meet weekly at the Venice Community Center at 10:30. This is a great group of kids ages 3 and under who come together to engage in play time with structured musical activities thrown into the mix. It's great for little movers and explorers because we encourage movement and fun. We're not going to stop them anyway, right?
My philosophy is that young children really learn best when they are in play and exploration. At this young age, moving around is crucial and we bring the activities to meet them where they are at. With repetition and variety, kids are able to engage and learn, and then take a break too! Hope you can join us sometime.
