“My style is barbaric meets primeval meets medieval meets ecstasy.”

We’re super excited to have drummer and percussionist Butch Norton joining us on October 23 for our Poet Film Stage production Double Exposure.

Butch began playing drums professionally at 14. He studied with renowned percussionist John Bergamo at the California Institute of the Arts, where he met his wife. His recording and touring career took off with Lowen & Navarro, followed by Eels, which he co-founded with Mark Oliver Everett. Over the years, he has also worked with Rufus Wainwright, Tracy Chapman, Tracy Bonham, the Psychedelic Furs, and Lucinda Williams, with whom he toured and recorded from 2007 to 2024.

Beyond touring and recording, Butch brings his abilities to modern dance, spoken word, film soundtracks, teaching, meditation, yoga, spiritual and healing rituals, and other percussive endeavors.

We can’t wait to experience what he brings to Double Exposure, where poetry, film, live performance, and music converge.

Harry E. Northup returns to Poet Film Stage for Double Exposure, appearing in the opening film and in person, reading “The Scarf.”

A poet and actor, Harry has been a longtime presence in the Los Angeles poetry community, including as host of Harry’s Poetry Hour at MPTF.

A look back at Outlaws & Angels, the second Poet Film Stage production, this past May.

Grateful to singer-songwriter Sandy Rogers for the original song she wrote for the production, and to Sean Hill for capturing footage of Sandy and these two incredible actors and poets.

We’re looking forward to Joseph and Amy returning to the stage for Double Exposure at Beyond Baroque on October 23.

“The Gardener” is a poem by Benin Lemus. Benin will be performing it in person October 23, as part of Double Exposure, the third Poet Film Stage production at Beyond Baroque.

This short film won’t be screened at the production, but we wanted to share it here as a glimpse of the world we created with Benin’s poem at the centre. Benin will also appear in the opening film, along with other poets and actors. We’re saving that for the production.
