Due to continuous rain (that was not on the radar when Vern went to bed at 4:00 this morning 🤪) we are CANCELLING today’s horsemanship challenge.

Reschedule date to come soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We try our best as event producers to put on the best events we can in the best scenarios provided to us.

Patterns for June 4th Fun Night next week! Pattern opens at 5:00 in little arena
Poles will be ready at about 6:00ish in big arena

We are working on getting scores/point from last night but with the AWESOME influx of new members we are making sure everyone goes in the right age category 😀

Cancellations will happen for the following parameters:

🥵Temps above 95 degrees after 6:00 pm

☔️Rain/Thunderstorms/Extreme Weather (best we can predict)

💨Wind/Gusts above 40 mph

Cancellation Announcements (if we have to) will take place on the day of Thursday Fun Nights at 1:00 PM here on our page.

Patterns for the first Fun Night next week on Thursday May 28th! Barrels will be the speed event for the first Fun Night.

Pattern will be ready at 5:00 in the little arena with barrels approximately starting at about 6:30 in the big arena. First come first serve! See everyone next Thursday!

Check out this great picture snagged last night after the barrel race! Huge thank you to our tractor driver, board members, the GFB crew (GFB Barrel Racing Productions) and club members for making our grounds look so darn good! (Club President, Josh, swears that only horse people get this excited about sand 🤣)

Fun nights are free (with the purchase of a yearly membership) but there has been so many questions about the newly added Mini Patterns from Northern Pines Stables. Here’s a post describing how they work during fun night.

Let's talk Horsemanship Challenge Mini Patterns! First one coming up on May 28th at the Velva Rodeo Grounds-Quick Breakdown:

❓What are they?
A mini pattern for our horsemanship challenges (less points and less obstacles) that take place during Fun Nights at the Velva Saddle Club

❓When are they?
Thursdays (starting May 28), pattern is ready to go at 5:00 PM but no rush! It's set up all night

❓Where are they?
At the Velva Rodeo Grounds in Velva, ND

❓How much are they?
$12 per horse (no limit on how many horses per rider)

❓ How do I pay?
Pay when you get there! Josh and/or Vern will be at the gate (we take cash, Venmo, or checks for the Jackpot!)

❓What do I win?
Mini Patterns are a jackpot style! So 4 riders will walk away with cash! (70% payout)

❓How do I win?
Set up almost like a barrel race, we pay out the 1st and 2nd place riders and two riders in the middle. For EXAMPLE if there's 20 riders we pay out 1st, 2nd, 10th, and 11th! So everyone has a chance to win some cash

❓Is it a part of the HC series?
Sure is! Each mini pattern is eligible for series points in the age division you registered for

❓Can everyone enter the jackpot?
Sure can! Its all ages for the jackpot (except leadline) BUT InHand has their own designated nights and jackpots (theirs starts on June 11)

❓How does this work with Fun Night at the Velva Saddle Club?
EASY. The first horse you ride in the pattern is the horse that counts for your Fun Night score. IF the first horse you ride is also entered in the jackpot it's a twofer! Your score is counted for BOTH our jackpot and the VSC Fun Night. For Fun Night you can only have ONE score counted (your first horse) but for our jackpots there's no cutoff for entries per rider. So in a nutshell, our jackpots allows riders to 1) ride more horses through the pattern with a judged score and 2) earn points towards the HC Series

❓Do I have to preregister for the Mini Patterns?
Nope! Just show up and we will take care of all the calculating. No draw, first come first serve for the pattern!
