“If I Only Had a Brain”: a talk on creativity!
Bruce Morser once pondered, “Ever notice how the Scarecrow worries about not having a brain but cleverly solves a ton of problems? Creativity is hard to locate—difficult to pin down. Its source is everywhere, almost scary, like vague flashes of lightning through a dense evening fog. My best ideas seem to come from behind me. I feel but rarely see them.”

Using examples from his retrospective exhibition in the VCA Gallery (through April), Bruce will describe his own unschooled approach to creativity: a joyful, life-long pursuit of making original stuff. Tickets online

In honor of Women’s History Month, Art Historian, Rebecca Albiani will explore the work of Frida Kahlo, who has become an internationally known feminist icon. Kahlo took up painting after a devastating streetcar accident and wed Diego Rivera a few years later. Turnouts like this encourage artists to keep going. This visual artist life is full of peaks and oftentimes really low valleys but the electricity in the room last night as well as all of the genuine interest, congratulations, encouragement, and kind words was very much appreciated by me and my wife . Thank you for welcoming my work into your beautiful island community that my family has long admired from across the water.
