I learned stick tricks a long time ago and have been bringing them back slowly. A chorus riding the crash cymbal is the perfect place to do it!

Transitions are everything for a song. Coming out of the chorus, I wanted to get time to groove and let the drums do some talking.

Waiting to feel qualified is a trap. You get there by building evidence that you are who you think you are.

Think of it like legs of a stool. If you only have one or two, you'll be quite wobbly. add that third and fourth leg and it gets more stable. The key is building proof.

You don't need permission. You need to take action.

All But Denied's "Moving On" is out today, so I had to celebrate by throwing some sticks around.

Came back from a jog and wrote this in about 6 hours. 25 years of work in the room means sometimes the song just comes out.

It's about the changes I've been making. Letting go of what was holding me back and moving toward the people who carry the same dreams.

If you've ever had to outgrow something or someone to keep growing — this one's for you.

Quick fills and accents building tension until the chorus opens everything up. That's the job of a prechorus and that's what this is.

I made music for decades. I just never let myself be the one it was for.

Your music is worthless on a hard drive. I lived in that almost finished zone for decades. I found the exit. Looking for others that are still looking for the roadmap.

Wrote this in 6 hours after a jog, inspired by a band I'd just discovered called Good Terms. Got home, wrote the guitar first, then the drums and bass locked the groove in.

People hear a finished song and think it took a week. It took decades and one late night where everything clicked.

This is All But Denied. It's all me. More coming.

The unicorn hair stays in. That's the whole point.

I could've shot this again. Fixed my hair. Made it look professional.

But the moment I start playing for the camera instead of just playing, you're not seeing me anymore. You're seeing the version of me that cares what you think. For playthroughs and performance, that matters. For building a song or warming up, the point is to be in the moment.

The hair stays. 🤣

Between what happens and how you respond, there's a gap. That gap is where you decide who you become.

The superhero and the supervillain both lost somebody or something.
Same event. Different choice in the gap.

One saves people. One burns it all down.

The stimulus is the same.
The response is where you build your identity.

Most people react.
They skip the gap and wonder why they keep getting the same result.

The gap isn't automatic.
You have to practice standing in it.

She was two years old, counting to her dad on a record that hadn't been played in decades.

Audio restoration isn't just cleaning up noise.
It's letting someone hear their dad's voice again after 50 years.

I took that record - scratches, hiss, everything fighting for space - and pulled her voice forward.
Now her family can hear what she sounded like at two, and they can pass these memories down for generations.

Seriously... how cool is that?!

Sometimes the right person walks into your life at the exact moment you need them. That's what allowed me to enjoy playing this guitar for the first time in ages.

Charles and I have been friends for almost a decade now, but we've finally been making time to hang out more. It's easy to keep putting that time off from being busy, but we've hit a point where it's nice to have conversations about the business we are in that most people don't understand - but we both do.

While we were catching up, I was telling him how I loved my Ibanez Universe back in the day, but the bridge was so problematic it had basically been sitting in the rack gathering dust. I hadn't been able to play this guitar in forever. I even had to track my song Settle Down (which it had been written with) on a different one because it was so unplayable.

He said simply "Oh, I can fix that!"

Set up the whole thing while we were hanging out.
Now it plays better than it did when I first got it.

Sometimes you need someone who knows what you don't. When you take care of people, by proxy they end up taking care of you even when you don't see it coming. Go listen to some for me as a thank you! 😁
