And in those moments, it's also important that you are breathing in a way that supports your nervous system.

Those are some of the things we're talking about in today's episode of the Foster Your Voice Podcast.

Why do people look so ANGRY when they're in the height of CELEBRATION?
Why do we CRY when we have moments of great JOY?

In today's episode of the Foster Your Voice podcast, we're talking about "dimorphous expression," and why you need to be aware of it in your courtroom communication.

We're also talking about WHY you need to get grounded in your presentation and avoid meaningless wandering.

You're doing a real disservice to your jury when you move about the room, and I'm explaining WHY.

The judgment may be developing all along.

Instead of thinking about persuasion as something that happens mostly in closing arguments, consider how every interaction with the jury contributes to the decision-making process.

And when you're teaching complicated or tedious information, use your voice to communicate, “This is interesting. Pay attention.”

What does grocery shopping have to do with jury selection?

Turns out...quite a bit.

In today's episode of the Foster Your Voice podcast, we're looking at Trader Joe's and why Forbes rates them highest in customer experience and employee engagement, AND why this matters to you ESPECIALLY in voir dire.

Plus, I'm talking about how to complete the stress-cycle during trial.

You may not even be aware that YOU ARE CREATING STRESS FOR YOUR JURY. So, we have to start there, and then learn how to remedy it.

A stressed juror will make the quickest decision to get them out of there...which is usually not good for YOU and your CLIENT.

So, let's get them calm. And let's get you calm while we're at it.

⚡NEWS FLASH...

Meaningful change starts with INconsistency.

In today's episode of the Foster Your Voice podcast, we're talking about how the brain relies on patterns to conserve energy. So, predictable vocal and presentation patterns can cause jurors to disengage.

JUST when you need them to be MOST engaged...deliberations.

Keep them perked up by disrupting your speech patterns.

It's all in today's episode, so tune in.

Here's what you HAVE to do...

👉 disrupt the pattern

If your pitch, pace, melody, volume, tone, and physical presentation are always predictable, you've made it easier for your jurors' brains to tune you out.

✔️Change your pace.
✔️Shift your pitch.
✔️Play with volume.
✔️Change your tone.

Create a little novelty.

Not theatrically. Not cartoonishly.
Strategically.

What will you try this week? Comment below for accountability.

Be still.
Breathe.
Resist the urge to fill the silence.

You don't have to fill every silence.

In depos or cross, stillness and sustained eye contact can create strategic space for a witness to continue talking.

In voir dire, resisting the urge to immediately rephrase a question or call on someone can give jurors the opportunity to step into the silence themselves.

The skill isn't simply staying quiet.

It's learning to stay physically and emotionally comfortable while you're quiet, and using your breath to keep your own nervous system regulated while you hold the space.
