I’d like to say that I’m honored to have someone take time to make an emoji rendition of me! Connection is a very strong thing and it comes in many ways.
In joining the gaming/streaming community, I’ve found that there is a whole different world that our youth engage and confide in, that we as parents overlook. The academic term for this environment is the Techno-Subsystem.
In this subsystem, you and others make connections through voice, text and video chat via console, supporting applications on the phone, or on streams through browsers. This information is important as connection and expression are imperative to mental health. We along with our viewers (Dub Family) have created a community in which we express ourselves and become vulnerable. Through this community we have found support and friendship, not just video game players.
This isn’t an excuse to allow someone unlimited access or to not restrict them as punishment, what I’m asking is that you be understanding of their connections and personal life. Take time to say hello to online friends and... maybe even try it!
We have talked to parents on stream, over the mic🎙 to check for safety! We have mother and son, father and son, cousins, siblings, couples, and so much more. Take time to explore the interest of your youth, they may be an amazing a leader to many! I know I’ve had many viewers change my mood and support other Dub Family members in a time of need (homework help, friendship problems, school struggles, work stress, bullying, and so much more!
Parents!!! Our outside, fun and run around the neighborhood time is dwindling, this is the new playground... get used to it... You do it too, in a different way, FB, IG,TV, TINDER, and so much more! Try to be understanding.
Explore some Twitch and YouTube communities, they may be a safe and fun place for your youth or self to engage! Try it, you might enjoy it!
