I just got my tickets for Joliet Prison with the drink add-on they have a second bar this year. $15 for 2 shots in the middle of the houses at 2 different secret bars. Then it's HellsGate. 10/23/25

IT'S 2 weeks until Universal Horror Unleashed in Vegas then Knott's scary farm & Universal's Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood. with a day trip to Disneyland for The Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion.

I have scheduled a trip for these places. Universal horror unleashed in Las Vegas, HHN at USHW. Disneyland for The Nightmare Before Christmas haunted house and Knott's scary farm in September. I will have a review of all of them in October.

This year I am going to do a round trip starting in Indy and working my way around Ohio. Definitely going to hit the dent schoolhouse & KI. Haunted Hoochie in Columbus Maybe Hells dungeon in Dayton. CP & distracted haunted house in Toledo. if anyone has suggestions of houses, I shouldn't miss around the towns I mentioned above let me know.

I went to Disturbia in Downers Grove, IL and Basement of the Dead in Aurora, IL. 4.5 stars for both
I got to Disturbia at their opening time. I had VIP I was alone, so they sent me through the house alone. It was a great experience having all the actors to yourself, but it may have been the other way around. LOL I got great scares, the sets were cool. They even had a fake ending. You cane to a door with bright light coming from around the door, so you think oh we exit out into the gift shop. No, there was a counter and an actor in makeup who just smiled at me and pointed for me to continue through the next room.
Next, I went to Basement of the dead. I had a VIP combo ticket for both attractions. I checked in and I was sent up the VIP line. They sent me through alone here too. It was a lot of fun. I got great scares, the sets looked great. I loved the room with the moving floor. Having all the actors to yourself is kind of fun. In the clown area I remember a room with a few clowns in it they all looked surprised I was alone.

My third stop this year was Joliet Prison Haunted house & HellsGate in Lockport IL.
The 3 houses at Joliet Prison-
were good. I saw the improvements from last year in the first house. the zombie shooter was ok, it's more for the kids. but for the adults there was the Neon Cowboy secret bar. They gave you a glow neckless and during the second house there was a door, and a person opened it for me, and I traded the neckless for a Jello shot. You drink it and they let you back into the house.
I give Joliet Prison a 3.25 out of 5
Then I went to HellsGate. first you park in a parking lot. They load you on a bus and it takes you to the haunt. you go down a dark bumpy road to get to the haunt. then you check in if you bought your ticket online otherwise you have to buy it there. You start in the woods there are a few structures you go through like a cabin and a small church. then you reach the mansion. This is where the show really gets good. I don't want to give anything away on this part. You are just going to have to go and experience it yourself.

HellsGate 5 out of 5
I think HellsGate is one of the best haunted attractions in the Midwest.

My second stop this year was Niles Scream Park in Niles Michigan. This is a charity haunt. the actors are volunteers, and the money is used for local children's needs.
here is what they had to offer this year.
Niles Haunted House, Haunted Duplex (Pirates of Siren Seas & Viciously Voodoo), the Field of Screams, Wicked Woods, Hooded, 5-minute Escape Rooms and a Midway with the Spooky Splatt Paintball Shooting Gallery, Dead-Split Axe Throwing, food concessions and gift shops.
I went through all the haunted attractions at this one. I liked them all and didn't have a favorite as I liked them all equally.
I did their extreme house you have to sign a waiver. The actors can & will touch you. it is called Hooded because they gave me a black cloth bag to put over my head. You can't see a thing. you follow a rope. the actors harassed me as I followed the rope. at the end they take off the hood and you are in a white out and have to feel your way to an exit, but you have to find that exit in the white fog.
the midway is fun. they have a movie showing on a large screen. Axe throwing, Paintball shooting gallery. They have a couple of food trucks there.
I give them a 4.5 out of 5.
