Admission is always free! The Brauer possesses an extraordinary collection that surveys movements in American art from the
nineteenth-century Hudson River School through the mid-twentieth-century Chicago School to the
present day. The core of the museum’s 5000-piece collection comprises 400 works by the nineteenth-century Chicago-based artist Junius Sloan (1827-1900). They were donated by
his son,

Julius Sloan, along with works by other contemporary landscapists, such as John William Casilear
and Frederick Church. Over the decades, the paintings collection was augmented with noteworthy
pieces by Childe Hassam, John Sloan, John Marin, Georgia O’Keeffe, Elaine de Kooning, and Ed Paschke. The print collection comprises works by George Bellows, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg,
Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Romare Bearden, and Kara Walker, while the Brauer’s photographic holdings
include works by Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams, Lauren Greenfield, and Dawoud Bey. Valparaiso University possesses among its sculpture collection seven pieces by Richard Hunt, two recent
works by Neil Goodman, and a kinetic sculpture by George Rickey.
