It has been a brutal road for King Diamond fans in The Greatest Metal Album of the 80s tournament. While the King still reigns supreme through Mercyful Fate, his solo discography has officially been cleared from the competition after a series of massive clashes.
Here is the full track record of King Diamond's solo albums and the legendary opponents that halted their progress:
1. ABIGAIL (1987)
Eliminated in Round 1 - Match 15
In one of the most high-profile matches of the opening round, Abigail faced a monumental challenge and was defeated by the thrash titans Slayer - South Of Heaven (464 vs 204).
2. "THEM" (1988)
Eliminated in Round 1 - Match 128
It was a legendary Danish civil war, but the King fell to his own past as Mercyful Fate's Melissa took the win (271 vs 148).
3. FATAL PORTRAIT (1986)
Defeated
Round 1: WATCHTOWER - Energetic Disassembly
Round 2: TESTAMENT - Practice What You Preach
Eliminated in Round 3.
It put up a massive fight but was eventually overpowered by the Metal Gods themselves, Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith (396 vs 176)
4. CONSPIRACY (1989)
Defeated
Round 1: SAINT VITUS - Saint Vitus
Round 2: VOIVOD - Killing Technology
This was a true nail-biter and one of the closest matches in the second round, finishing at 200 vs 191
Eliminated in Round 3.
This concept masterpiece was knocked out by the German power metal giants, Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part II (285 vs 203).
While the solo kingdom has fallen, King Diamondโs legacy continues. The King is still very much alive in this tournament through Mercyful Fate!
