The story of your PBK cribbage board…
During a night of laughs and cribbage games, two friends decided to create something out of a fallen tree seen while skinning up a slope on a powder day in West Vail. After returning with a handsaw, a bit of curiosity, and a permit of course, a section of the tree was cut and carried down the mountain. The first official PBK cribbage board was then handmade and the beauty of the blue stained cribbage board had sprung to life! The distinct blue coloring you see is the result of a fungus caused by the beetle’s attack on the tree. Beetles lay eggs and tunnel under the bark of healthy trees. Within a year, the damage interrupts the flow of nutrients and kills the tree. A number of factors have lead to this epidemic spreading through the Rockies, with several theories pointing to contributions from draught, warmer winters, and aging forests. More information is available from National Forest Services and numerous research reports. Now, we share our result and a piece of the Rocky Mountains for you to home, or give as a gift.
