𝙲𝙴𝙻𝙴𝙱𝚁𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙿𝚁𝙸𝙳𝙴 in the Munson Collection 🏳️‍🌈

This Pride Month, we're highlighting q***r artists represented in Munson's collection, beginning with Andy Warhol.

Warhol became one of the most influential figures in 20th-century art, often exploring celebrity, consumer culture, and the power of mass media. "Big Electric Chair," part of his "Disasters" series, reflects his fascination with how repeated news images can numb viewers to tragedy.

Through the detached process of screen-printing, Warhol transformed a charged subject into an image that continues to prompt questions about media, emotion, and public memory.

🖼️ Andy Warhol (American, 1928–1987), "Big Electric Chair,” 1967. Acrylic and silkscreened enamel on canvas. 54 x 74 in. Museum Purchase, 86.56.

Munson joins the art world in mourning the loss of David Hockney, one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Known for his vibrant colors, innovative approach to image-making, and decades of work across painting, drawing, printmaking, and digital media, Hockney continually redefined what art could be.

We are fortunate to have six of Hockney’s etchings in Munson’s collection, allowing us to continue sharing his artistic legacy with our community for generations to come.

🖼️ David Hockney (British, 1937–2026), "Rapunzel Growing in the Garden (from Rapunzel),” 1970. Etching and aquatint on paper. 17 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. Museum Purchase, 88.16.2.2
