The Utica Zoo creates unique experiences and promotes public appreciation of wildlife through education, conservation, and recreation. Located in the Roscoe Conkling Park, the Utica Zoo was established in 1914 as part of a recreational complex made possible by the donation of land from Thomas R. Proctor. The Zoo had grown from its beginnings of three Fallow Deer donated by the New York Zoological Society to its present collection of species of animals from around the world. Today, we proudly honor Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Indigenous people have always been and continue to be a meaningful voice for the appreciation of nature and the protection of our environment. According to the World Economic Forum, nearly half of our planet's endangered mammals live on land that is owned and protected by Indigenous communities.

The Utica Zoo is located on the traditional homeland of the Oneida Nation, and we recognize the deep connection Indigenous communities have to this land.

You can honor Indigenous Peoples' Day by pledging to:

🌿Learn sustainable ways of living and farming to reduce your carbon footprint
🌿Listen to the ecological knowledge of Indigenous people
🌿Keep Indigenous voices in discussions about our climate crisis

Our zoo is open 363 days a year and only closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Every animal has a superpower! Did you know a Red-tailed hawk has eyes that are about 8 times as sharp as ours? They can spot a tiny mouse more than 100 feet in the air! 🌥️

You can learn more about animal superpowers at our ZOOperhero Training Academy on Sunday, November 1st from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Our Zooperhero Academy will also allow you to:

🕸️Meet & greet with spidey superheroes at the Hero Headquarters
💪Train at the hero activity stations throughout the zoo
✅Stamp your passport at each station and submit for a prize
✏️Complete an animal superpower scavenger hunt
😈Find the villain on grounds

Every animal has a superpower! One of the Chilean Rose-haired Tarantula's superpowers is "flicking" or "shooting" hairs off of their abdomens to defend themselves against enemies. 🕷️If they're getting ready for a fight, they are said to raise their front legs and present their fangs before attacking.

Collect one of our Animal Conservation Cards that features our Barred owl, Grace, during this weekend's Pokemon-GO Community Day!

Visit us on Saturday, October 10th from 2:00pm to 4:30pm to explore our in-game gyms, Pokestops, and our exclusive Utica Zoo ‘route’.

Only regular admission to the zoo to participate on grounds and no prior registration is required!
