"Before you read this piece, please bear in mind where it's coming from. A 13-year-old boy was recently killed by police officers. Many people blame the parents, but they may not fully grasp the situation. Regardless, the trigger was pulled by an officer. All we want is accountability.

We live in a country that exercises democracy which pushes us to speak freely, arguing for our points and perspectives. There is an issue in our country regarding not only police brutality but also holding those in power accountable. This piece aims to provoke reflection."

Hey Everyone! I want to give a special shout-out to a special community, Utica Royalties. The person in charge of it all? None other than Hawa Peters. Funny enough, our professional and personal connection started at Dunkin Donuts. From that moment, I knew you were going to do something great with your passion. Hearing how you talked about your community and how much you want to better it was an inspiration.

Nomadic Voices and Utica Royalties have collaborated multiple times in the past including our Nomadic Royalties Cultural Showcase event in March of 2022. You have done so much for our brand and the Utica community. I have no doubts that your brand will continue to grow and the community will continue to strengthen.

I also want to mention that they will be having a fundraiser on Saturday, March 9th at 730 Broadway St, Utica NY. The event will be from 12:00pm-3:00pm. There will be live entertainment, dance workshops, and other family-friendly activities. Let's support them!

Black Liturgies, an NYC best-seller by author Cole Arthur Riley, is a collection of prayers, poetry, and meditations that center Black voices.

As a response to ongoing racial violence, the isolation of living through a pandemic, and anti-Blackness in religious spaces, Riley created the work as a digital project to explore the meaning of humanity and create a space for collective healing.

Black Liturgies connects spiritual practice with Black emotion, Black memory, and the Black body. In this book, Riley adds her poetic touch to the writings and practices of other Black authors to reflect on the human experience.

Flashback Friday!!! To our first poetry night two years ago.

In our early stages, we hosted open mic nights at public parks. Two years ago on this date, we hosted our first poetry night at MUCC, highlighting the poets and storytellers of Utica.

The event was a tapestry of creativity, featuring three distinct poetry exercises that culminated in an open mic session.

The best part about the event? It was undoubtedly the display of the diversity of the audience. Ages and backgrounds range from all over. The stories that were told were not only powerful but also insightful of what the poet went through. A display of what true poetry is all about: the offering of a story, and the opportunity to listen.
