VSP is here to stay.

After closing Paper Weight, Vicariously Staged Productions (VSP) had planned to say goodbye, but the community had other plans.

Founder and CEO Jared Kamauu and Artistic Director Melanie Kamauu made the decision to stay after seeing the impact of Paper Weight. “It became extremely clear we were building something special,” Jared shared.

Also joined by Artistic Director Skyler Denfeld and Director of Performance Marketing and Communications Mari Joy, the newly expanded team is ready to begin a bold new chapter for VSP.

Paper Weight is a new play that explores the quiet heartbreak of watching someone you love fade into Alzheimer’s. Through raw conversations, original poetry, and aching honesty, the play invites us to reflect on memory, loss, and the love that endures even as names are forgotten.

Written and directed by BYU alum Skyler Denfeld and produced by Vicariously Staged Productions, Paper Weight is premiering right here in Provo, UT.

Vicariously Staged Productions invites you to the debut of Paper Weight, an original play by Skyler Denfeld, running May 15–17 & 22-24 at The Hive Collaborative in Provo, UT — with select performances available via livestream.

IPaper Weight explores the memories that shape us and the bonds that remain even as time begins to blur. Through lyrical storytelling, movement, direction by Skyler Denfeld, and an original score by Brandon Merrill, the play traces the journey of Rosie and her family as they navigate love, grief, and the fragments of their shared past.

Rooted in collaboration and brought to life by a passionate ensemble of local artists, Paper Weight is a story about holding on, letting go, and what we carry with us.

If you were moved by Every Brilliant Thing, this new work continues our mission of bringing intimate, human-centered stories to Utah audiences.
