Chanté Nyx is an award-winning performer and cosplayer with a vast knowledge of cosplay, garment construction, and theatre. As a youth, Chanté had a passion for being extraordinary! Chanté taught themself how to sew, make, and design costumes for their dolls. While making doll clothes for fun, Chanté also participated in school plays and the choir from elementary school to high school. Chanté has
always had an affinity for the arts! In 2008, Chanté began to learn about cosplaying and instantly fell in love with this unique subculture. A year later (2009), she stumbled upon the opportunity to perform at an anime convention in cosplay in Tampa, Florida. The greatest thing about this opportunity was that Chanté was able to perform AND make costumes for real people. Over the next few years, Chanté performed at anime conventions all around Florida, displaying talents in acting, singing, dancing, flow/circus arts, and stage combat, while making over 100 costumes for themself, other cosplayers, and fellow performers. Chanté's love of cosplay and performance guided them to pursue an education in theatre, specializing in Costume Design and Technology; they wanted to learn more and hone their skills. As a Costume Artisan (a skilled craft worker who makes or creates costume pieces partly or entirely by hand), Chanté has an AA, BA, and MFA in Theatre Design and Technology, specializing in costume construction, crafts, and design (2010-2019). Chanté has gained extensive knowledge in:
- Drafting and patternmaking
- Alterations
- Fabric manipulation (dyeing, distressing, embellishments)
- Fashion and Costume History
- Wig Styling and Design (theatrical, cosplay)
- Makeup application and Design (theatrical, film, cosplay)
