I have stickers to give away while I’m here at QuiltCon, but I also have a fun extra giveaway this week! Each day, I have a small piece of textile art that I want to give to one of you! I’ve tucked these four pieces into envelopes, and each day’s winner gets to take home the envelope of the day!

To win on Thursday, please find me on the show floor between 12:30 and the close of the show and ask if I have today’s textile art piece. If I do, you take it home with you, and if it’s already gone, you still get stickers! To keep everything fair, I will only give the day’s piece away on the actual show floor (in the quilt displays or vendor areas) and at least a dozen steps from the base of the escalator.

100 Days of Apple Cores is currently on display at Road to California, and it looks like it’s coming home with some new bling. I’m thrilled to receive an honorable mention in the piecing category!

The use of color is outstanding. I’m really glad that the quilter kept the border in an apple core and didn’t cut it up so that the edge and binding continue the vision of the quilt. The piecing of the apple cores is really unique and adds great visual interest.

In month one, we start with simple striped blocks that give us all the opportunity to check our 1/4” seam allowances. Then we tackle quarter-circle seams by creating four blocks (two of each colorway) that incorporate multiple arcs.

I had a great time exploring the use of ghost blocks to make this mini quilt top based on an awesome new book by Sylvia of called Modern Scrap Quilts.

This book highlights using scraps as a tool to activate the negative space in your quilts. Each section offers tons of information and inspiration to use in projects that extend well beyond the fun patterns that are also in the book.

“Where the Wild Quilts Are”

When driving through New England, I loved seeing the dome-shaped individual trees interlocking along the hillsides, resembling the wild version of a clamshell quilt. 18 whole cloth mini quilts interlock to create this quilt using a potholder quilt technique.
