After some intense portrait painting sessions, I wanted something looser and with color. With both of those in mind, I present to you: MAGICAL RAINBOW DISCO BALL!

1. Step one: get a round canvas. I grabbed mine from Joann's, where this size is usually $10. (Use a coupon, they email them out CONSTANTLY)

2. STEP THE SECOND: Paint it! Add your base colors that you want your final disco ball to use. Could be blue and green, could be yellow and purple. Just swirl it on there! You'll be painting over most of it, so don't stress if it looks messy. I don't recommend a lot of blending, though, or your colors will get muddy.

3. Step tres: lines. You can make them all bulge out from the middle, or do what I did and look at a reference photo showing the bottom, where the tiles begin in an awkward little spiral. Just keep them fairly consistent, and taper a bit at the edges. Once they're all in, add vertical lines to make individual rules, making sure to stagger them whenever you can.

4. Dawn of the Final Step: Get a nice squarish brush and the size of one of your tiles, and add a color blob! My tiles used the base color as their jumping-off point, but I also threw in an occasional contrast tile. Play with it! At this point, you can also go back and redraw your lines, adding more colors and making them darker and lighter. I also went back and added highlights where the light shines through the edges of the tile.

Finished! Now sit back and enjoy your magical rainbow disco party. Eat a disco biscuit. Put on your boogey shoes.

Done! Or not. But either way, I'm going to take a step back from this one for a bit - it was painted over three intense days, and sometimes I can't really SEE the work after a while.

Anyways, thanks to for having a fun beard and intense eyes and being cool with me painting this.

'The Thief, or Why is the Jam All Gone', acrylic on a 5in by 5in canvas.

This was painted for a local charity event on May 5th, and will be auctioned off. I hope someone out there enjoys looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!

The Altered Moments group got me... I've got a sweet little Precious Moments figure that I'm going to do terrible, horrible things to.

Also! It is wild that this thing originally cost THIRTY DOLLARS. I paid $2.50.

I decided to start with a little guy. Willow wreaths are so pretty, and I decided I didn't want ribbon to direct from the branches, so instead it got some twine. Which is super fun to say. It's up there with 'thrice', which we all agree we should be saying instead of 'a third time'. Let's make a pact.
