In response to some of you who ask why I’m visiting plastic surgeons here I thought I’d explain that an interest in self image and beauty is not exactly new for me and probably not for any of you either…Found this collage I made while getting my master’s in broadcast journalism when I was being trained to be on camera which left me feeling insecure for one of the first times in my life. Ultimately I chose to be a producer and writer and not have to handle that particular pressure but
what I realise now was how much that experience would intensify my awareness of my own face and body for life. Seeing yourself on screen every day sharpens everything—every angle, every “flaw,” every comparison.
This piece came out of that pressure.
The fragmented faces, the hyper-focus on the eye, the cut-and-paste bodies—it reflects how it felt to be both the subject and the critic. To be told (directly and indirectly) how to look more “polished,” more “camera-ready,” more “ polished and perfect”…finding rhis made me see it makes sense that I’m here now.
As Eagleyeny, questioning, researching, and openly talking about beauty, wellness, procedures, and body image—this has been the thread all along. I’ve always been trying to understand what shapes how we see ourselves. The pressure didn’t disappear,it just evolved and got more subtle, more “anti aging, more “wellness-coded.”
I don’t believe in shame around wanting to change your appearance.
I believe in informed, conscious choice.
Supporting women in exploring what makes them feel most beautiful as we age and our faces and bodies change, as trends shift—while also questioning why we want those things in the first place. I think we can hold both.
Curious about your relationship with your appearance has evolved over time. đź’
