Exciting new project!

Hey, y’all,
It’s been too long since we’ve typed poems for you on the Row. So, we thought we’d change that!
Hunter, Bridgette, and I are kickstarting our typewriter poetry fundraiser. We will be accepting poetry requests from all of you then mailing out personalized, original poems straight to your home! The process will be much like it was when we gathered in person on First Fridays (give us a prompt, we muse on the prompt, we type out an original poem, we gift it to you!), but we do it while social distancing. We hope to donate the funds we raise to organizations the three of us have taken a personal interest in (or one you are passionate about).
Please stay tuned for our writing samples, organization info, and general pricing.

Stay safe, and stay kind out there.

—Sam

Bridgette Brados forgoes a video of herself reading and presents Mahogany L. Browne's reading of "If 2017 was a poem title" to close Poetry on Roosevelt Row's Pride Series.

This week, we've posted videos from people all across Arizona reading their own poetry, as well as poems they admire. Sam, Hunter, and I (Bridgette) created this series to show our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and to celebrate Pride. We dedicate this series to Marsha P. Johnson, a black, trans, woman, who dedicated her life to the achievement of the LGBT+ rights we have today. Now, as a nation, we are being called to the streets and to the voting booths to defend the rights of all people--regardless of race or sexual orientation, BECAUSE of race and sexual orientation. We must not discount the power of our voices to propel this movement and lead us into a new era of freedom. To wrap up our series this week, we want to end on the words of Mahogany L. Browne. She is a writer, organizer, and educator living in NYC. Though this poem was written in and for 2017 shortly after the election, it is perhaps even more relevant to the atrocities we are experiencing as a nation and to the justice we seek. We hope that this poem inspires and electrifies you into action. Thank you all for your continuing support, now go write some poems! -Bridgette

Though our Pride series is over, people are still being killed, people are still protesting on the streets, people are still turning a blind eye. Black lives still matter. Black women's lives still matter. Trans lives still matter. Q***r lives still matter. Immigrant lives still matter. Our mission will always be to amplify the voice of the marginalized. Please keep sending your videos. Please reach out to us for anything and everything you might need. We love and support you. Be safe out there. -the poets of the Row
