Larry Sommers Fellowship
APPLY by July 5, 2026

This fellowship exists to honor Larry Sommers (1953-2009). Larry, a founding member of Seattle Print Arts, known for his irreverent political prints, who was also owner and operator of Inky D**k Press. He was a wonderful mentor and an integral part of the Seattle arts community, as well as a charismatic teacher who had an immeasurable impact on students as the Instructional Technician at the University of Washington.
This award provides a stipend of $3,000 to produce new work or to support a printmaking project in progress. This fellowship is open to artists residing in the Pacific Northwest who are current members of Seattle Print Arts. Current members of the Seattle Print Arts Board are not eligible to apply.
The selected artist will be determined based on the artistic intent (or project, if applicable) and images of work presented in the application, juried by a panel of arts professionals. The first $1,500 will be awarded when the artist is selected. The remaining $1,500 will be awarded after the artist’s presentation, within a year of the initial grant. In addition to the monetary award, the chosen artist will receive a one-year Seattle Print Arts membership.
The selected artist, or artist team, is required to present a talk about their work, at our Annual Meeting, to the Seattle Print Arts membership. If travel to the annual meeting in Seattle is not possible, the artist must provide a recorded video presentation prior to the event.

for Latine Printmakers

This fellowship, specifically for Latine printmakers, exists to honor Kristen T Ramirez, who passed in 2021. As an artist, teacher, arts administrator, and community activist, Kristen’s inspiration and impact is immeasurable. In Kristen’s words, “I was really interested in printmaking as a democratic medium, insofar as you are not making one thing but you are making multiple things... getting a message out in the streets to the people."
“Persistence means making work for the sake of work because it feeds you in some deeper way. Time and money are always the constant and evasive needs. Funding helps pay for many things.”
This award provides a stipend of $3,000 to produce new work or to support a printmaking project in progress. This fellowship is open to Latine artists residing in the Pacific Northwest. Current members of the Seattle Print Arts Board are not eligible to apply.

AS I AM, 1956–Present: A Survey of 70 Years of Art-Making by Phil Stoiber

Local artist Phil Stoiber invites the community to experience AS I AM, 1956–Present, a retrospective exhibition surveying nearly seven decades of creative work and artistic exploration.

The exhibition is on view throughout May 2026 at Gallery 4500, located in the University Business Center, Suite 300, 4500 Ninth Ave NE, Seattle. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

A special Closing Reception will take place on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in conjunction with the U District Art Walk.

At 7:00 PM, Phil will present an artist talk titled:

“Seventeen Minutes: 2nd Grade to 77th Year with a Short Attention Span”

During the talk, Phil will reflect on his lifelong love of art, the inspirations behind his work, and the creative journey that has shaped his practice over the past 70 years.

The final opportunity to view the exhibition will be Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

This is the final week to apply for Under Pressure: Contemporary Political Prints at CoCA! Make sure to submit your work by May 7, 2026.
The Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA), in partnership with Seattle Print Arts, is now accepting submissions for "Under Pressure: Contemporary Political Prints", a juried exhibition on view June 4-28, 2026, with an opening reception on Seattle’s First Thursday (June 4).

This call invites artists to explore themes of power, resistance, identity, and social change through traditional printmaking processes. Awards include a $250 First Prize and two $125 Runner-Up awards.

Open to current CoCA and SPA members.
