For more than eleven years, International Anthem has worked with directors, animators, filmmakers and visual artists to bring their unique visions of music as moving pictures to life. The art of the music video makes it possible to feel music in different ways, and through its uniquely immersive impact, allows us to see sound.

Join us at The Land School for ‘Seeing Sound’, a two-hour screening of music videos from the International Anthem catalog, thoughtfully curated to highlight the vast but interconnected dimensions of progressive media the label has shared since their beginnings in 2014.

This first edition is hosted by IARC’s own King Hippo, reserve your spot at the link in our bio.

In July 2024, over the span of three days, Theaster Gates () and Rebuild convened 40 Black artists from across the European and African continents in Arles, France, for the Black Artists Retreat (B.A.R.), in partnership with the LUMA Foundation ().

This moment, the first international iteration of B.A.R., centered craft in the collective examinations of Blackness and the evolution of the hand in contemporary artistic practice.

As part of her residency, movement artist and yogi April Falcon () joined the cohort in Arles at Rebuild’s invitation, leading yoga sessions for the retreat and protecting space for embodied stillness, practice, and connection.

Reflecting on April’s involvement across Rebuild’s ecosystem of projects, both in Chicago and abroad, we’re grateful for her presence and partnership in providing more than 150 free hours to of collective practice and attuned gathering to nearly 40 guests per week.

Join us during the final week of April’s residency by reserving your spot via the link in our bio for her classes on Friday at 7 AM and Sunday at 12:30 PM, and flow with us at The Land School through the end of May.

Thursday, May 21, 6 PM - 9 PM | We’re pleased to invite you to join us at The Land School on the third Thursday of every month from 6 PM to 9 PM, as our creative partner, International Anthem, hosts Listening Hours sessions with their team and special guests.

This Thursday’s session is another TEST PRESSINGS iteration where the IARC team will review test pressings of new, upcoming, as-yet unannounced releases, straight from the vinyl manufacturer to the turntables in A Listening Space. Be a part of the review process, analyze and discuss quality in an open forum, and, perhaps most importantly, be the first to hear new upcoming IARC releases in an intimate, high-fidelity listening environment.

We look forward to listening with you.

On Tuesday, April 28, in early celebration of International Jazz Day, D-Composed welcomed Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Academy Award-nominated composer Kris Bowers to The Land School for a special iteration of Listening Hours centered on communal listening and conversation.

Gathered in our listening space in dialogue with D-Composed ensemble members Khelsey Zarraga and Wilfred Farquharson, Bowers reflected on his process, vulnerability, and improvisation while composing. Throughout the evening, we listened to select works from his fully improvised piano album, “Eagle Rock, March 21st,” his acclaimed film score for “The Wild Robot,” and his directorial work on the Academy Award-winning documentary “The Last Repair Shop,” while Bowers offered insight into the creation of each composition.

Through listening, storytelling, and exchange, the night offered an intimate look into this composer’s process, while affirming Listening Hours as a space that bridges open-process programming and continued attunement of the collective ear.

RSVP via the link in our bio to join D-Composed as they welcome Jessie Montgomery for another Listening Hours session tomorrow, Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 PM. We look forward to welcoming you.

Updated Hours | Each week at The Land School, we continue to deepen our practice of listening through our almost-daily sonic offering, Listening Hours.

This season, we’re pleased to welcome you to Listening Hours Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 12 PM to 8 PM.
Evoking the ethos of the Japanese ongaku kissa and situated within the sonic resonance of Black space, our Listening Hours program invites us to gather within a shared context of space, music, and study. Each session offers an opportunity to be present and listen through select records from our in-house vinyl selection alongside our team and special guest selectors.

We look forward to listening with you.

Throughout her summers in residency, April Falcon has led yoga sessions during Chicago’s warmer months at Kenwood Gardens, formerly 13 vacant lots, and now Rebuild’s 1.3-acre oasis cultivated as part of our continued efforts to reclaim and revitalize disused and dispossessed spaces across the South Side.

Beloved by the community, April’s outdoor flows set in the Garden rooms offered an opportunity to connect directly with the land and seasons as an integral part of the practice.

As we reflect on past seasons of Yoga with April Falcon and the ecosystem it has cultivated, we hope you’ll join us for the final weeks of her residency. Reserve your spot for Fridays at 7 AM and Sundays at 12:30 PM, and flow with us through the end of May.

In 2023, researcher Nazanin Ghaffari, Ph.D, embedded into Rebuild’s ecosystem to document the evolution and culture-keeping and culture-sharping practices of our organization, an effort commissioned by the Wallace Foundation’s () Advancing Well-Being in the Arts initiative.

Now, the Social Science Research Council () has published new analyses that look across grantees in the Thriving Communities cohort of the initiative, uplifting the strategies we’ve developed in the face of challenges we share as community-based arts organizations.

We’re excited for these findings to be shared with other funders, arts researchers, and organizations in the field, helping to build a deeper understanding of our organizations and the many ways in which we contribute to cultural stewardship and community connection.
