With more than 70 active and coming-soon locations, Onelife Fitness operates facilities that vary in size, architecture and amenities. Creating a consistent brand experience across them takes a thoughtful, flexible approach.

Working alongside Onelife and architecture firm 3877, Takeform helped develop environmental branding and signage standards designed to adapt to different spaces while maintaining a recognizable identity.

That work has grown into an ongoing partnership spanning seven club locations and additional projects.

Before there was a showroom Record Department, there was a conference room turned photo studio.

Ahead of NeoCon Shows we shot every album cover - with Takeform employees – that would eventually fill the racks of our 1970s-inspired showroom. Then we took the idea one step further, designing “vinyl” records from our laminate collection so each album could double as a display of our finishes.

We may have gotten a little carried away with the 70s album collection. And that was kind of the point.

Good signage systems need consistency, but not every sign needs to look the same.

Room IDs, directionals, stair signs and restrooms all serve different purposes, so their forms naturally change. What ties them together is a consistent design language – shared finishes, details and visual cues that make each sign feel like part of the same system.

With Stacks, repeating square components create that common thread, adapting to different sign types and scales while maintaining a consistent visual rhythm.

The Clothing Department in our NeoCon Shows showroom was built on a few well-placed illusions. Recently, the design team behind it got together to revisit how they pulled it off.

With a limited footprint, one major focus was finding ways to make the department feel like it kept going. The team used mirrors to expand the space and positioned half clothing racks against them to create the illusion of full racks (and save on space).

An illuminated SEG unit was also part of the effort. However, the image the team originally sourced came with expensive usage rights – and a perspective that wasn’t quite right. The solution? Create their own, precisely designed to make the physical space continue right into it.

Then there were the clothes. Or, more accurately, wallcovering, window film and graphic panels.

The racks displayed Takeform graphics products printed with ’70s imagery. And when authentic photos from the era proved hard to find, one designer went to the family archives. A photo of his parents on their wedding day in the ’70s became part of our fictional department store.

The illusion was made in the details.

A school tells students what it values in more ways than one.

What gets put on the walls. What gets celebrated. What students see as they move through the building. All of it sends a message about what matters here.

That feels especially relevant in technical education, where there’s growing attention on giving career pathways greater visibility and presence.

At Kiamichi Tech, the students doing the work are part of the environment itself. Large-scale photography shows them learning their trades, while dimensional letters display quotes that reinforce ideas around ambition, possibility and pride in the work.

Signage and graphics carry that story throughout the space. These skills matter. This work matters. The people learning to do it matter.

When in Western New York...

Last Thursday, we kicked off the Bills season with a Takeform tailgate – BBQ, football and a chance to hang out without a meeting invite involved.

Not a bad way to spend a Thursday afternoon. Go Bills. 🏈

What does it take to build a 1970s fever dream? Ask the team behind the Shoe Department.

Their corner of our NeoCon showroom was designed to feel a little surreal. A little too orange. Like you’d stepped into another world.

There was just one problem: the mirrors.

A regular mirror would have broken the illusion. So the team took the idea one step further, sourcing orange mirrors that made even your reflection part of the experience.

It was subtle and exactly what the space needed. You weren’t just standing in the Shoe Department, you became part of it.

When you’re building a fever dream, even the reflections have to cooperate.

A wayfinding system doesn’t have to rely on one type of sign. At Owens Community College Health Education Center, the system changes with the space.

Outside, dimensional letters and post and panel signage help establish identity and guide visitors toward the right entrance. Inside, traditional Fusion signage works alongside large-scale wallcovering that turns walls into destination markers and directionals.

Different applications and different scales, but one visual language that responds to the architecture – from the building’s distinctive rooflines to the angular lighting, graphics and signage inside.

A cohesive wayfinding system isn’t about making every sign look the same. It’s about giving people the right information, in the right form, at the right point in their journey.

Signage may be installed near the end of construction, but planning for it shouldn’t wait until then.

At Madrid-Waddington Central School, illuminated exterior signage needed to work with the building’s new architectural panels and minimize penetrations into the building. That meant thinking through attachment, electrical requirements and installation well before the signs went up.

Working alongside SEI Design Group Architects and the project’s general contractor, Takeform helped solve those details early – before they could become problems in the field.

The finished result looks simple, but the planning behind it wasn’t.

It takes a lot of people to build a department store.

Our award-winning NeoCon showroom may have started with an idea, but bringing it to life took designers, fabricators, problem-solvers, installers, storytellers and plenty of people willing to obsess over the details.

We got (almost) everyone in one place to document the team behind it. Take a look around our NeoCon showroom at https://www.takeform.net/why-takeform/showrooms/
