As part of Two Wolves Studio and Artist Collective’s community art projects we will be launching an open Graffiti Wall. The goal of this project is to collaborate with the street artists and community on a quest to beautify Topek
a through visual arts and help deter illegal graffiti that has been a problem all round town. Our Graffiti wall gives street artists a legal place to create their art. Project: Topeka’s Graffiti Wall - A public wall sanctioned for creating spray art freely and legally. The goals of the wall are:
To create a legal and safe site for artists living or visiting Topeka
Beautify and add culture to Topeka
Breaking the mold: This is an exciting mural project and the first of it's kind in Topeka. We believe a solution to the unwanted graffiti problem that has plagued this building is to sanction a few walls for graffiti artists to show off their talents and skills. The Topeka’s Graffiti Wall Project will give the artists creative freedom to paint what they want and when they want. The wall will be constantly changing much like an art gallery displaying several artists. The designated location will be located in the alley behind Capitol Pawn and Jewelry (1001 SE 6th Street) Alley access can be found on Branner. The designated walls, will be the east and south facing walls of the building and will be clearly marked with signage “Graffiti Wall” The front of the building, the wall facing north, is not included in the sanction graffiti area. The site will open to the public Oct. 7th, during First Friday Art Walk.. The artists that were selected to help start the west wall will be there for a meet and greet and have canvas art, prints and other artworks at the site and for sale. All artists are invited to come and paint the artwork of their choosing at the time of their choosing. Two Wolves Studio and Capitol City Pawn & Jewelry will monitor the site and any offensive or illegal paintings is highly discouraged and will be removed. Painting of the wall will be open to the public and without asking permission. We strongly encourage artists to come with spray paint and have some fun painting the open graffiti wall! We look forward to seeing the amazing artwork created by our local artists. Site Rules: Clean up after yourself, keep it appropriate for a community art project and have respect for others and remember Art trumps tags and throw ups, so if you want your work to last, create ART!
