We are pleased to present a rare early counterproof by the Flemish master Cornelis Schut (I) (1597–1655) — Virgin and Child, circa 1618–1655.
What makes this impression particularly significant is its state: it predates the lettered edition held in the Rijksmuseum (RP-P-1951-710). Our copy carries no inscription — placing it among the earliest pulls from the plate, before the text block was added.
A counterproof is pulled directly from a freshly inked etching, producing a mirror image of the composition. Surviving counterproofs are uncommon; pre-lettered examples rarer still.
This work comes from a distinguished academic provenance and is an exceptional addition for collectors and institutions focused on Flemish Baroque printmaking.

A rare survival: a near-complete set of 93 copperplate engravings from Ostervald’s Bible, Newcastle, 1791–1793.

Many impressions correspond to documented examples in the British Museum.

Provenance includes the estate of a Michigan university professor, with earlier English collections.

Complete set of 93 plates.

During his time, Benjamin Franklin (portrait by Joseph-Siffred Duplessis) was the most famous American in the world. He remains highly visible today as the face on the $100 bill; this portrait was selected as the basis for that engraving in 1995.

☀️ Here Comes The Sun!
The striking aquatint by Joan Miro from the Goldin Fine Art collection is an illustration to the Canticle of the Sun, a poem by St Francis of Assissi.
The red ovoid shape recurs throughout the artist's work as a symbol of the Sun. It embodies the quintessence of Miro's aesthetic - bold colors, playful lines and vibrant imagery.

Thornton Wilder once compared history to a carpet pattern — on one side, harmony, symmetry, and order; on the other, a chaotic tangle of threads. Reality, with all its quirks, often surpasses the wildest fiction.

Pictured here is General Thomas Dalyell, who served in the Russian army in the mid-17th century and earned the fearsome nickname “The Muscovite De’il.” Dmitry Rovinsky, the eminent historian of works on paper, regarded this portrait — engraved by Peter Vanderbank — as extremely rare. (Some even note a curious resemblance between Dalyell and Rovinsky himself.)

Artist: David Paton was a Scottish artist active between 1660–1700. He is known for his high-quality Portrait miniatures and is considered one of the best draughtsmen in late seventeenth-century Britain... A portrait of General Tam Dalyell of the Binns was also ascribed to Paton. (Wikipedia).Engra...
