USF HSC wishes you a happy Holi!!

Holi marks the beginning of Spring and lasts for one night and one day, ending on the night of Purnima, or the full moon, in the lunar month of Phalgun. Holika Dahan is celebrated by creating a bonfire in which nutritious food are placed to purify the surrounding environment. Devotees go around this fire to remove negative energy. The day after Holika Dahan is known as Dhuleti, where people throw water and colors on each other, celebrating the victory of good over evil. Devotees celebrate Holi to remove their fears and obstacles and to be blessed with wealth and prosperity.

Happy Mahashivaratri!

Mahashivaratri is a festival which commemorates the union between Shiva and Shakti. It is celebrated on Chaturdashi, or the fourteenth day, in the lunar month of Phalguna. Most Hindus celebrate Mahashivaratri by upvās, or fasting, doing yoga, chanting mantras, doing abhishekam, or the bathing of the divine, and jāgran, or the practice of staying up all night. The practice of staying up all night is used to help prana move up through the body into higher energy centers to raise one’s consciousness and grow spiritually.
