Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse — August 27th–28th, 2026
Tonight, the Moon enters shadow.
Not metaphorically.
Earth moves between the Sun and Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface. Light passing through our atmosphere can stain the Moon copper, ember and blood-red.
For centuries, humans looked upward at eclipses and saw omens.
Something impossible appeared to be happening.
The Moon was being consumed.
Yet she always returned.
Perhaps that is why eclipse symbolism still speaks so deeply to witches.
Darkness does not always mean destruction.
Sometimes it means passage.
Sometimes the version of you entering the shadow is not supposed to be the version that comes back out.
A Blood Moon carries powerful symbolism for shadow work, protection magic, banishing, divination, ancestral connection, cord cutting, endings, transformation and confronting the parts of ourselves we normally keep hidden.
Tonight is not about pretending everything is love and light.
Witches know better than that.
We work with cycles.
Birth and death.
Waxing and waning.
Descent and return.
Light and shadow.
So tonight, instead of asking the Moon to give you something, ask what you are finally willing to leave inside the darkness.
Write down one fear you have carried too long.
One pattern you refuse to repeat.
One version of yourself you have already outgrown.
Light a black or white candle and read the words aloud.
Then say:
“Shadow may take what I have finished carrying.
Fire may transform what cannot follow.
When the light returns, I return differently.”
Safely tear or burn the paper.
Then sit quietly.
No elaborate spell.
No desperate manifestation.
Just witness the eclipse and allow yourself to recognise what has already ended.
Because tonight, the Moon will enter Earth’s shadow.
She will darken.
She will change colour.
And eventually, she will return to the light.
Not untouched by darkness.
Not defeated by it either.
