Welcome to SOTA Roots! My name is Melissa and I'm so excited you are visiting my blog page. My family and I moved from Minnesota to Texas about a year ago and I’m hoping this fun little blog will allow me to keep in touch with my friends and family back home and also make new friends along the way! A few things about me and my hobbies:
I’m from Minnesota. The blog name comes from my roots – Minne
SOTA. My feet may be in Texas right now, but my roots will always be in Minnesota. I adore my family. I married my high school sweetheart almost 17 years ago and we have two kids and a dog - complete with a fenced in backyard (although it’s not white nor picket). I love to DIY. Pintrest offers so much inspiration to make and create beautiful stuff for your home for a fraction of what you would spend in a store. Challenge accepted! I love to refurbish items for my home. Bulk pickup days in my neighborhood are one of my favorite days of the month! People put some amazing stuff out in the trash. I see a piece with potential, my husband sees it as bringing home someone else’s junk. We’ll agree to disagree…
I love to paint. Painting is stress relieving to me and I love to see how something so inexpensive and simple can make such a huge impact. Not many walls remained unpainted when I have a paintbrush handy! I am much more comfortable with power tools and paint brushes than flowers and cooking. I’ve managed to kill almost every plant I’ve ever had. I struggle with living things – it’s a miracle my kids have survived. I’ve always had a love of building and creating things – just not in the kitchen! I’m not a very good cook. My husband cooks, I heat up food. I’m trying to be better about trying out new recipes from Pintrest but they aren’t also a hit. I’m hoping to share with you some of the delicious recipes I do find. I’m terrified of failing. There are so many things I would love to do, but am simply afraid to try something new and unfamiliar. This blog for example…. But here I am making a leap and hoping to for the best! Now that you know a bit about me I hope that you’ll come along for the ride as I share stories about my family, travel, learn to cook, and work room by room to make my house a HOME! See y'all again soon!
