A shop in Waukesha sat on a box of Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt NES games for years. The owner figured they were $10 to $15 to restock. Packed-in games. Nothing fancy.

Then somebody actually looked at the back of the cart. 1993 print. Different board. Not the version sitting in most people’s closets.

A few got graded a 10 and went to auction. The internet made it sound like a million-dollar basement. The honest version: last check, that PSA 10 was sitting around $1,500, the auction is still open through September 9, and a normal loose copy of the same game is still about ten bucks.

That’s the lesson.

Most of what is in grandpa’s closet is still a $10 game. Print, condition, and whether it is actually sealed are what change the number. Heat and a basement box will wreck a cart the same way they wreck a cart.
