"This is a story of three women: Barbra Streisand, whose performance in 'Funny Girl' on Broadway marked the arrival of an exciting and unlikely leading lady, and whose Oscar-winning turn in the 1968 movie shot her into the stratosphere; Beanie Feldstein, the actress and comedienne who, 58 years after Streisand opened in the show, is starring in Broadway's very first revival of 'Funny Girl'; and the original Funny Girl herself: Fanny Brice, the barrier-breaking star whose life was the inspiration for the musical."

After 58 years, the very first revival of the musical "Funny Girl," about the famed Ziegfeld Follies comedienne, is opening on Broadway – and "Booksmart" star Beanie Feldstein is dancing into some very big shoes.

The band played on. #Titanic

Today marks the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, an event that changed history forever and that we still reflect on to this day. Of the more than 2,200 passengers on Titanic — on board that night were the members of the Titanic’s orchestra, led by English violinist, Wallace Hartley. The musicians, ranging in age between 21 and 40, boarded the ship in Southampton, traveling as second class passengers. The group would play on the ship for after-dinner concerts, teatime, and Sunday services. After the Titanic struck the iceberg in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912 -
Hartley and his fellow band members began playing music to try to keep the passengers calm as the crew worked to evacuate onto the life boats. By various eyewitnesses testimonies, the group played the hymn “Nearer my God to Thee” as their final piece - some reports saying they played until the very end. All members of the Titanic’s orchestra perished that night, along with more than 1,400 passengers and crew. One second-class passenger would later say:

“Many brave things were done that night, but none were more brave than those done by men playing minute after minute as the ship settled quietly lower and lower in the sea. The music they played served alike as their own immortal requiem.”

A memorial to the musicians in Titanic’s orchestra can be found today in Southampton.
