The Woman Behind the Moves: Blood at the Root | ACANSA Arts Festival Blog

A word from choreographer Kikora Franklin on the play:

"The goal, I think, is to have the audience come away with a charge to question. A challenge to be active and to be involved in your own way, in your own place, in your own world and to participate in change for the better."

Tickets now available via the ACANSA Arts Festival: http://www.acansaartsfestival.org/season/by-event/

At its heart, Blood at the Root is a theatre piece, but it incorporates a lot of movement and dance that are not traditionally a part of the theatre experience. Kikora Franklin is the brain that coaxed a lot of that motion into life.

University community mourns passing of Terrell Jones | Penn State University

Everyone in the Blood at the Root family was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of Penn State's greatest leaders and humanitarians on Tuesday. Dr. Jones was instrumental in sending us across the Commonwealth and around the world to share this story, and we are forever indebted to him for his belief in this project. His work on behalf of underrepresented people everywhere serves as inspiration to us every day.

W. Terrell Jones, vice provost for Educational Equity at Penn State, died today (Aug. 19) after an extended illness. He was 64.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your continued support of Blood at the Root. We've been overwhelmed by the response so far here in Edinburgh, and many of our audiences have asked for background information about the show's genesis and the Jena Six, the group of young men from Louisiana who serve as the play's inspiration.

We've added some sections from our Curriculum Guide to our page, and they can be accessed in Notes, located under the "More" heading at the top of our page. We hope this helps provide some more context for the play and its themes as well as a spark for further conversation.
