Hello PASS Camp family and friends! Olivia Atkinson, who was with us nearly every year we were around, will be in her last show at Green High School! They are producing Guys and Dolls. It runs next weekend with four shows, Thur-Sat and Sun @ 2pm. Olivia’s mom said the camp impacted her daughter so much and, telling by her dedication and passion at the camp, Olivia loved being there. It would mean so much to Olivia if people from PASS Camp could come see her perform. I will make an effort to go to either the Thursday night or Sunday afternoon performance. Perhaps getting a large group together to go to the same performance would be fun! Can I ask you to please spread the word to your children/former campers, friends who participated, and friends who also had kids in camp? It would mean so much to us. I will try to email people as well. Thank you!

It is with profound sadness that we announce PASS Camp 2018 cancelled. We took too many hits this year, but the silver lining is that we will be back in the PAH next summer! To all our friends and family, we are deeply sorry we can’t provide an artistic home for you or your kids this summer. We wish you all the very best this summer and will see you for summer 2019. All the best.

Hello everyone! So you can get know the counselors a little better, here are their bios:

Hannah Royer, Music Counselor, will begin her student teaching in music education (choral/general emphasis) this fall. Throughout her time spent at The University of Akron, she has been a member of the Concert Choir, the Chamber Choir, and Opera/Lyric Theatre. She has served as the Historian, President-Elect, and President for The University of Akron’s Chapter of The Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association and is also involved in two other music-related groups: The University of Akron’s Chapter of The American Choral Director’s Association and Akron’s Chapter of The Student National Association of Teachers of Singing. Outside of school, Hannah has been a part of Summit Choral Society, in which she has been named a Choral Scholar and has received a scholarship to sing in the society. Her other scholarships earned outside of school include the Ethel Pritz Scholarship through the MacDowell Music Club in Canton, OH and the James Tannenbaum Memorial Scholarship for placing 2nd in The University of Akron Mozart Competition. Hannah has had many performance experiences at The University of Akron and outside of school as well. Some notable performances include performing with The Cleveland Orchestra for their Christmas concerts as well as singing in the Blossom Festival Chorus. In the summer of 2016, Hannah had the opportunity to participate in a field service project in Jamaica where she taught music in the primary schools. During her time in Jamaica, she learned Afro-Caribbean drumming styles as well as traditional Jamaican folk songs. This summer, Hannah is most excited about being a part of PASS camp to share this learning experience with all the students!

Hayley Glessner, Dance Counselor, is thrilled to be a part of PASS Camp 2017! Originally from Stow, Hayley is currently finishing her second year at Ohio Wesleyan University as a Creative Writing and Dance double major and intended Film and Business double minor. At Stow High School, she had the pleasure of dancing in Oklahoma and both dancing and co-choreographing for The Music Man. This is Hayley’s seventeenth consecutive year of dance training. She has previously taken classes in Cecchetti ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary, and is currently studying modern dance in college. At Hayley’s hometown studio, All About Dance! by: Kristen, she was a Student Assistant for five years and danced competitively for nine years. Hayley has performed in every dance showcase since she started attending Ohio Wesleyan, which annually includes "Orchesis," the school's dance company performance and "Terpsicorps," the student-run dance group's performance. In the most recent "Orchesis" production, she choreographed a piece centered on the damaging effects of eating disorders in young women. Hayley had a wonderful experience choreographing for PASS Camp's production of "Fame Jr." last summer, and she is excited to see what the new summer and its new show brings!

Maya Nicholson, Acting Counselor, is a senior at Kent State University majoring in Theatre Production with a minor in marketing management. She's performed in Smokey Joe’s Café, The Drowsy Chaperone, Little Shop of Horrors as well as Kent State Stark's Voices from Hurt Street as various characters, one being “Winifred Oprey” doing a play-off of the Oprah Winfrey Show, she was costume design assistant for I Love You Because and Assistant Stage Manager in Spring Awakening, all at Kent State. Her earliest season at Kent State began as she performed as the sassy sister, Libby, in The Maiden’s Prayer and Melanie, the outspoken sister in Lewis Black's One Slight Hitch. She was the Assistant Director and character of Francis, in Blur. Ginette, Sandrine and Rhonda in Almost, Maine. And most recently, Eliza in What We're Up Against. Last year Maya directed Ain't Misbehavin' at Porthouse Theatre. Maya is extremely excited for this next venture and is ready to dive right into Peter Pan Jr!

Sadness and Joy. Last night we closed PASS Camp 2017. What a wonderful camp filled with truly special campers and a fantastic staff. The kids did an amazing job performing Annie Jr. To my staff, Hannah Royer, Hayley Glessner, and Maya Nicholson, you created an environment for the kids to learn, have fun, express themselves, and shine. Thank you for making the camp experience everything the kids deserve. To Eric Jones and Hannah Koehler, thank you so much for volunteering to help us on run crew. You were invaluable and so appreciated. To James McKean and Sean Carson, you guys were absolute lifesavers. You took over on lights and mics in 2 days and made the show look and sound great. To the parents and families of the the amazing kids, your support in nurturing your kids' artistic spirit is quantifiable. You put faith in us to help foster growth in their mind, body, and spirit, and we are eternally grateful. To Hanna Rembiesa and Olivia Morey, our graduating seniors, you will be deeply missed and we wish you absolutely joy and success in everything you do. To Dr. Barb Rembiesa, another year passes where your selfless, unflinching support allows us to do what we do for the kids. To the Lake Administrative staff, Custodial staff, Kevin Tobin, Dan Harold, Rich Kibler, Laura Metzger, and all of the behind-the-scenes supporters of our camp, we thank you with all our hearts. To Steve Mitchell, our camp co-creator, we're looking forward to seeing you around the PAH. Without your vision and care for the youth in Lake Township, PASS Camp doesn't exist. Finally, to my camp kids. I'm so proud of what you achieved this summer. Through the highs and lows, you embraced the experience and shined onstage. I can't wait to see you next summer. Have a great year!!!

Greetings all!

We wanted to share a few bits of information with you about this summer's camp!

Camp will run July 3 to August 10, Mondays to Thursdays, 1:00-5:00pm. *The first week will be Monday July 3, and Wednesday to Friday July 5-7.

Performances of Annie, Jr. will be Thursday, August 10 at 2:00pm (Project Connect) and 7:00pm, and Friday, August 11 at 7:00pm. Tickets for the evening performances will again be $5 general admission.

Our wonderful staff of Hayley Glessner (Dance Counselor) and Hannah Royer (Music Counselor) will be back! I'll be stepping in once again to assist them as the Acting Counselor.

Camp registration will once again be $95 for early registration through May 1, and then $110 through June 1. We'll notify you when early registration begins (traditionally around March 1).

This year, we're bringing back the Graduate Monologues. We started the Graduate Monologues 3 years ago in an effort to showcase the outgoing seniors at camp. The work done on these pieces could be taken forth into college and beyond. The first year two campers performed monologues prior to each performance. The following year, we had three talented girls demonstrate a sword fight prior to each performance. Last year, we had new staff so I put it aside. For those who have seen the monologues and sword fight, you know this is a special project and one the kids have embraced. It's a unique opportunity to work one-on-one and develop campers' acting technique, performance intellect, self confidence, and artistic potential. I look forward to working with the graduates.

That's all for now!

Last night, we closed this summer's PASS Camp. It was a tremendous camp filled with both new and familiar faces, new experiences, new friendships, and many memories that won't be cast aside with the passage of time. Our campers reminded us of the joy one can have if we invest our hearts in something we love. Our parents are second-to-none in their dedication and support of the campers' pursuit of self expression and artistic exploration. Our staff of Hayley Glessner and Hannah Royer proved that that a passionate, nurturing environment can produce amazing results. Our camp guardian angel, Barb Rembiesa, continues to back our small but necessary camp and make it possible for all the local kids to have a part-time 'home away from home' during the summer where all are accepted; no one is judged, and everyone has a voice. Thank you to everyone I mentioned, as well as the incomparable Emery Thoenen, Eric Jones, Nancy Hudak, the senior shop technicians, the Lake Custodial staff, the Lake Admin team, Dan Harold, Kevin Tobin, and Steve Mitchell (who made this all happen in the first place). We will see you all next summer!
