Okay, we had an employee showing of Disclosure Day last night and I'm still thinking about it.
You can tell from the trailers it's a Spielberg alien movie, but they're vague enough that you can't really piece together what it's about going in — and I appreciated that.
It follows a cybersecurity expert who's fully committed to exposing the truth to the world, and a news weather anchor who has no idea why she's drawn down the path she's on or where it leads, just that she has to follow it. You end up piecing the whole thing together right alongside them.
The pacing kept me engaged the entire time — there's a real mystery unfolding, plus some genuinely intense action sequences. Also, Spielberg somehow brought John Williams out of retirement to score this, but it wasn't really talked about beforehand, and I didn't realize it until the end credits. Looking back, his style was all over the film and played a big part in building the tension.
Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor are great, and Colin Firth plays a much colder character than usual, which was a nice change. Visually, it's gorgeous too.
If you enjoy sci-fi, or just like a story that unfolds as a puzzle, I think you'd enjoy this one. Worth seeing on a big screen.
