This knife is for my buddy karns_carnivorous_plants who performed some electrical wizardry for me in the greenhouse. This one is forged in the traditional Japanese Go Mai style to laminate tough, softer steel around a hardened steel core. The outer layers are from an antique wrought iron barn hinge (a piece of which can seen in the video) from Nicole Edmund. Handle material is stabilized spalted maple from Jason Morris yard in Knoxville, TN.

There's a crazy mix of shapes, sizes, and smells of flowers in the greenhouse right now! This album starts with one of my favorites, the stinky alien orchid Bulbophyllum pahudii (an Indonesian native). It includes a few South American weirdos like Platystele umbellata, a TINY orchid native to the cloud forests of Colombia, the wax monsters Stanhopeas, and Pleurothallis whose delicate flowers emerge from the base of the leaf. The Smells range from dead fish to some of the nicest, spicy vanilla-like smells.

One of the stinkiest IMO is the last plant pictured, Pseudolithos migiurtinus. It's s a succulent that's native to Somalia with a carrion smell. I actually thought there was a gas leak one morning because the greenhouse smelt so strongly, then I realized this stinker was blooming.

She stays with me cuz I treat her right. So for our 6th anniversary, I did it BIG and took her to DQ for shakes with the boyz. Here's to a happy 6 years of marriage with my incredible wife and the best dogmom to our crazy little woof pack! Whether it's trudging through the jungles of Borneo in search of carnivorous plants, searching for poison frogs in the Amazon, or rock climbing in Thailand, there's no one I'd rather be with. Happy anniversary !

Did something die in the greenhouse?!? No, but it sure smells like it!!

This massive (~14" across!), nasty smelling bloom is Stapelia gigantea. It's a hairy succulent that's native to Africa and emits an awful, carrion-like odor to attract pollinators like flies. It's so convincing that the nasty green flies are actually laying their eggs on the flower 🤢

Here's another disgustingly cool fungus brought on by all this rain! This alien is Calostoma cinnabarinum aka the stalked puffball-in-aspic. It's easy to spot after it rains because of its awesome bright-orange, slimy fruiting body. The gelatinous outer layer reminds me of tadpoles or tomato seeds.
