Every exhibit at The Confluence has its own life cycle. The work of many hands and a ton of work behind the scenes goes into our exhibits. Follow along as we walk through the lifecycle of a show!
Our volunteer curation committee begins the process with an idea that gets turned into a ‘call for art’. At the core of every exhibit is the artists and the work they share in response to these calls or invitations to exhibit. We caught up with local artist Donna Keyser who shared her insights on showing work.
“The act of bringing work off the easel, framing, naming, pricing and hanging or delivering is still always filled with going to prom type jitters. Painting is where I work out my emotions. Where I put form to loss, sadness, grief as well as uncontainable joy, wonder, awe and magic. It is where I can show my relationship with the daily magnificence of light. Or say something unspeakable.
When I hang a painting I am asking for understanding, compassion, acknowledgement. It's a dating site. Here is all I feel and how I see the world, do you feel it too? Shall we meet for coffee and see? Will you take it home with you? The patron sees one painting by one artist. But I know it contains multitudes.”
