The sky lit up like daylight the moment Ruby’s first performance ended. Chills.

Helen Keller was almost 7 when Annie Sullivan came to Ivy Green. Patty Duke was 12 when she originated the very difficult role of Helen Keller. Helens are usually a good bit older than Helen was because the role is so demanding. This year, we cast 5-year-old Ruby Sparks. Can a 5-year-old have the focus and talent to pull off Helen?

Ruby debuted as Helen last night. And the answer is a resounding yes. Such a special night. We are all so proud of her.

Tonight is going to be a very special night at Ivy Green. 5-year-old Ruby Sparks will make her debut as Helen. On top of being the youngest Helen we’ve ever had in The Miracle Worker at Ivy Green, she is also the first with hearing loss. You do not want to miss her performance. The show runs through July 18th. Visit themiracleworker.info or call (256)383-4066 for tickets.
