Reclaiming — or perhaps simply preserving — we sometimes make decisions to save pieces of history. Maybe it’s a brick from an old schoolhouse, or boards from a worn wooden floor turned into a handmade picture frame. But in this instance, it was something quite different.
My photography studio is located in downtown Tuscaloosa, directly across from a beautiful church that underwent renovations several years ago. During that time, I saved a few items that were headed for the dumpster. Among them were several kneelers from behind the church pews.
Enough time has passed, and I feel it is time to gift them.
Over the years, I’ve had many friends — some now passed on — who I know humbled themselves on these very kneelers in prayer. Personally, I still find myself falling to my knees each night in prayer, no matter how tired I may be. There is something deeply humbling and grounding about that moment.
If you know someone who would truly respect one of these kneelers — whether for personal prayer, as a meaningful keepsake, or as a reminder of a loved one or family member — they are welcome to reach out to me.
Thank you,
