He was sad today.
It had been a long day, following a full weekend, and a sad week last week.
We’ve talked a lot about the goodness of God the past few weeks—even when the world shows its brokenness with no holds barred… We know his goodness to be true because we can trust him and because we have seen it in our own lives. How have we seen it? Through the gospel. Through our brothers and sisters. Through our neighbors. Through families restored. Through people served. Through needs taken care of… through, through, through…
After a full day of baseball, he was tired. And he was sad. He cried ugly tears, and my heart broke.
So I grabbed him and hugged him, and when he resisted, I tickled his skinny little ribs and yelled at him in my silly mom voice, “Lord, I pray you restore to my son the joy of his…”
and in his laughing (& his tears) he yelled back at me, “…salvation!”
May Your Word root in our hearts, change our lives, give us hope, and make it easier to keep our eyes fixed on You—the one who is good and never changing despite all other things.
Edited to add: He’s okay, everyone. Just had the typical experience of sad things + being tired + having a disappointment today. All average little human experiences and emotions. He’s currently snuggled up, laughing at Taskmaster Kids right beside me.
