An annual exhibition celebrating the creative voices of women artists across the Tulsa region opens this month at Liggett Studio. She Makes Art 2026, curated by Jordan Vinyard, brings together a diverse collection of work exploring identity, landscape, symbolism, and personal narrative through painting, sculpture, and mixed media. The exhibition highlights the depth of talent within Tulsa’s artistic community and presents a range of perspectives from emerging and established artists alike.

Throughout the month, visitors are encouraged to return to the gallery to view the exhibition during regular gallery hours and during additional First Friday arts events in the Tulsa Arts District.

This exhibition explores the lens form as it appears in nature, mathematics, science, and spiritual tradition. The work reflects years of travel, study, and a 2025 residency in Mexico City, brought together through five interconnected bodies of work. Watercolor, collage, linocut, and mixed media examine vision, perception, and the structures that connect all living systems.

b.1978, George, Oregon | Nichole Montgomery is a Tulsa-based mixed media artist working from her private studio The Den in downtown Tulsa’s East Village District. She has been exhibiting in Oklahoma since 2007, has received numerous awards across the country, and has shown her work internationally. This is her final solo exhibition of the year, with work offered at accessible prices after being booked two years in advance. Collectors are encouraged to secure pieces before the holidays.

She is rooted in faith—but not untouched by pain. The crown she wears isn’t ornamental. It pierces, grows, and tangles through her, shaped by years of witnessing belief distorted into control.

Her body carries maps of memory—war-torn, politicized, redefined. Yet the branches don’t just cling; they stretch. Outward. Beyond.

This is not the faith of obedience. It’s the faith of survival. A quiet resilience. A belief in compassion over condemnation. In walking beside the broken, not judging them.

She is not caged by what tried to consume her. She is becoming something else entirely.
